Q

How often should you have your car’s oil changed?

A

once every six months

or every 5,000-10,000 miles

There are older cars using conventional oil that may need to be changed every 3 months or 3000 miles, while newer cars with synthetic oil can last longer. Our best advice is to follow the manufacturer’s recommended oil change interval found in the owner’s manual.

Most modern cars have a warning light when the oil levels are low.

When there is no oil, the engine stops working and is permanently damaged.

If you wait too long with refilling the oil reserve, you will risk causing massive damage to the engine as parts of it will come into contact with each other at high speed, destroying each other in the process.

Use the dipstick to check the oil level.

Q

True or false:

When your car is going 120 mph (193 km/h) and suddenly stops, you still move at 120 mph (193 km/h) from within your seat.

A

True

Kinetic energy is generated by all movement. This is why, when the car suddenly brakes, you feel yourself being thrown forward against your seatbelt.

If you weren’t wearing a seatbelt, you would be thrown forward with the same speed the car had before a full stop.

And even if you are wearing a seatbelt, some external and internal body parts are still moving at that speed when the car stops suddenly, which can cause whiplash or organ damage.
